General Questions

How does Computer Jacker research which components go into a particular computer?
We spend days, sometimes even weeks, reading up on all of the latest computer technologies. Some of our decisions come from our previous background experience while the rest comes from consulting with top experts in the field. There is always a fine balance between choosing a long standing known good component and a brand new component boasting all of the latest technology.

How does Computer Jacker test their computers?
Once we are satisfied with the actual computer build, we place the system under stress testing. This involves running special applications meant to exercise the different components in the computer, such as scanning all memory addresses or pushing the processor to complete enormous amounts of operations. If the computer passes all of our stress testing, then we choose pertinent industry applications to benchmark the overall performance and make sure it is up to our standards.

Absolutely! Check out our list here to see some of our preferred choices.

Will I need any additional software to go along with my newly built computer?
Each computer we put together at Computer Jacker is meant to be a stand-alone product. With that said, a viable operating system, such as Windows, is necessary to operate the hardware. Both the OS, and any business applications or games, ultimately are the choice of the end user.

Will I need any additional hardware to go along with my newly built computer?
Yes. Computer Jacker does not usually include peripherals, such as monitors, keyboards, mice, or speakers along with their computer builds. The majority of the time, these peripherals will work with any well constructed computer and are ultimately the choice of the end user.

I have an idea for a project. Can I submit a suggestion?

Can I replace one of the components in my choice of computer kit?
Of course. Computer Jacker does not claim to be the only solution for an assembled computer, and since we don’t actually sell the computer, the choice of components is completely up to you! If you have a question regarding whether something is a valid replacement, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to offer our advice.

 

Orders & Purchasing

Can I purchase my components directly from Computer Jacker?
No, not at the moment. We are currently researching ways to integrate a one-stop shopping cart onto our site that would consolidate all of the best deals from different suppliers into a single checkout cart. Please check back soon for updates on our solution!

Can I purchase a fully assembled computer from Computer Jacker?
While our primary business is to provide free video tutorials and not the computers themselves, we do offer additional services to our customers. Contact us here regarding purchasing fully assembled solutions.

What do I do if I am missing one or more of the items I ordered?
Each component distributor has their own shipping policies, tracking, and delivery methods. Check out the distributors FAQ or contact them directly for more help.

Does Computer Jacker offer any type of warranty on the components?
Since Computer Jacker does not sell the actual computers themselves, we do not offer any guarantee on the components. We ourselves are sometimes forced to return defective components to the distributors as well. Unfortunately there is no way of predicting the actual state the components will arrive in. Should one of your components stop working, contact the manufacturer directly as most items come with a limited warranty.

How long will it take to receive my components once I order them?
This is completely dependent on the shipping methods. We usually received our components anywhere from 48 hours to 1 week later. Check with the individual distributors as most of them have shipment tracking.

 

Technical Support

Does Computer Jacker offer any type of technical support?
Since we do not sell the computers ourselves, we do not have a guaranteed technical support program. However, should you be having any issues with your new computer, feel free to contact us and we will try to help out in any way that we can.

What do I do if my video doesn’t load?
Ensure your browser has the latest plugins to stream video. Usually, if you can watch YouTube videos, then our videos should load no problem. Please contact us if you are having further difficulties.

What do I do if one or more of the components is showing as out of stock or unavailable?
This happens time to time, it even happens to us! We cannot control the stock inventories of our distributors. You can either wait for the components to restock, check with a different distributor (list), or replace the component with an alternative. If you do not feel comfortable enough making the latter choice, please contact us and we would be more than happy to help.

What do I do if one of my components is defective?
If one of your components arrives defective, contact the distributor right away as they usually have up to 90 day return policies. If one or more of your components stops working in the future, contact the manufacturer directly as some of the components include limited time warranties.

What do I do if my computer is unstable or showing technical issues?
The causes for unstable operation are many. Sometimes one of the components is defective just enough to cause problems but not shut down all-together. Other times, specific software can have issues running on specific platforms. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the condition of the components or test every piece of software out there. However, should you have any technical issues, contact us and we will try to help in any way we can.
